The splendorous Caracol was the largest metropolis in the Maya lowlands of ancient time and is located deep within the Chiquibul Forest Reserve in the Maya Mountains. The Mayan site was once home to approximately 150,000 ancient Mayan people, who lived in Belize many years ago during the classic period.

The archeological site is located 40 kilometers away from San Ignacio town and is in the Chiquibul forest reserve.  While traveling to this location, you will enjoy the stunning scenery of flora and fauna that enhance the true beauty of this magnificent Maya City.  Caracol is a world in which gods and kings once ruled.
